Age of Cell phones- are land phones on their way out?

Age of Cell phones- are land phones on their way out?

For starters, we live in the age of cell phones. Tell me, how many people do you know who doesn’t have a cell phone that is perennially attached to him? I am sure the answer is zero or perhaps one. The sheer popularity of cell phones testifies for the obvious upper hand it has with land phones. But whether land phones are on their way out or not is debatable.

Land phones are necessary in offices because the very fact that they are not mobile makes them dependable. Offices always list their land phone numbers wherever it’s required because anyone calling them can be sure that their call will be answered by someone or the other. Moreover, people with children usually have a land phone at home so as not to have to give a cell phone to the young ones who may not be ready to handle the responsibility.

Initially it may seem that cell phones are much more expensive than traditional land phones. But no one uses a cell phone for just making calls. They use it for text messaging (the most popular application), taking snaps, listening to music, emailing, browsing the internet and social networking. Whew! That’s a lot of extra work for a device with which you can make calls from just about anywhere, talk with more than one person simultaneously and can carry with you wherever you want. And most people do just that! They carry their lives on their cell phones and are deeply attached to it. Honestly, the price of the cell phone maybe more than a land phone, but the anytime-anywhere device gives back a lot more for anyone to complain.

In an era of increasing competition among cell phone companies, prices are constantly falling. There are many low-end phones available at very cheap prices. So buying a cell phone is no big deal these days.

So use a cell phone all you want, but I don’t think land phones will be going out anytime soon. The land phone is a necessity that cannot be easily replaced. And the funny thing is that both the land phone and cell phone are unique in their own way. I don’t think the world can do without either of them.
