A Greece travel expedition can be one of your most rich, beautiful and colourful vacations ever. Though it is a small country, it offers a diverse experience for the discerning traveller. But only if you know where to go and what to see will you be really be able to appreciate its beauty.

When you think about Greece, the first thing that will come to your mind is the rich history it has. Greece has numerous historical monuments, ancient stadiums, old churches and monasteries. While there are over a 300 museums and almost an equal number of historical sites, here are a few of them you cannot afford to miss.

The Acropolis: This is the global face of Greek tourism and is very popular among tourists. Visit it in the early morning or late afternoon.

The Temple of Poseidon: This famous temple is situated at the cliff top. You can also enjoy the view of the beautiful Aegean Sea from here.


Athens' National Archeological Museum: This famous museum has numerous artifacts from ancient times. Beautiful statues and Egyptian artifacts also find place in an exhibit here.

The Island of Santorini: If you have been enamoured by the legend of Lost Atlantis, you cannot not visit this island. This is believed to be the lost island.


Epidaurus Theatre: This site is located on the Peloponnesus Peninsula. Visit it in summer in time for the Epidauras Festival where orchestras and plays are enjoyed by both locals and tourists.

Mycanae Fortress: The Mycanae Fortress has beautiful architecture with carved walls of stone. The gate has two majestic lion statues and tomb shafts. There’s also a snack bar where you can have a snack.


Mykonos Island: If you have become a little tired of the historical sites by now, its time to relax and enjoy the modern side of Greece. The Mykonos Island is very popular among tourists for its numerous restaurants, discos, bars and even a nude beach for the adventurous lot.
Crete Island: Don’t miss this island if you are fond of partying. While you are there go to the Heraklion Archeological Museum for a historical byte.

Apart from visiting tourist-y places, there are many ways you can have a great time in Greece. The various mountains, rivers, lakes, gorges, waterfalls and forests provide the perfect background for rafting, mountain biking, kayaking, bungee jumping, hand gliding and hiking.

Greece has many spas dotting the hot and cold natural springs and a visit to one of them will surely rejuvenate you. Moreover, if you are visiting Greece in summer, you will witness various fun events. There are open-air movie theatres, carnivals, cultural and sport events held during that time. Musical July and Athens Festival are famous all over Europe. The International Thessaloniki Film Festival attracts film lovers from all over the world.

The Greek people have been lovingly refining their cuisine for the last four thousand years. And the effect is for all to see and enjoy! The mild climate nurtures the vegetation and the result is extremely aromatic, natural and fresh food. Oregano, thyme and rosemary grow in the mountains from where the people collect them and use them to prepare the delicious dishes. And the high quality light olive oil adds flavour to almost every dish in Greece.

So as you can see, Greece can be an exhilarating experience. Visit it and enjoy some unforgettable moments with your friends and family.
