Reality TV Shows: A Bane more than Boon
Reality television shows are programmes
that generally present unscripted dramatic situations or events and usually
feature ordinary people where they win prizes. In today’s world, there has been a
steady increase in the number of reality shows. But everything has two sides, a
good and a bad. Although some shows have changed the lives of people like “Kaun
Banega Crorepati”, “Indian Idol” and “Masterchef”. But nothing is perfect and
has some flaws.
There are some shows like “Roadies”, “Splitsvilla” and “Iss Jungle
Se Mujhe Bachao” which attract people because of their lingo and tasks given to
participants. The only bad part is the language that participants use and the
clothes they wear. Youth gets attracted to all this and these programs have
highest TRP’s. It is no offense to watch such shows but its effect are felt
later on by change in people’s behaviour and nature.
In competition-based programs such as Big Boss and Survivor,
and other special living environment, the producers design the format of the
show and control the day-to-day activities and the environment, creating a
completely fake world in which the competition is carried out. Producers select
the participants and use carefully designed scenarios, challenges, events, and
settings to encourage particular behaviors and conflicts.
Almost everyone knows that in the show “Emotional Attyachar” the
couple who went through loyalty test were paid to act. Some shows also have
lack of privacy so it can get vulgar. They can even destroy the reputation of
contestants and lack authenticity.
These shows are violent, unreal and sometimes have hazardous effect
on the kids and distort their way of thinking. They have no truth but build a
fake world for people. Sometimes they have clever camera tricks. People use it
as a source of instant fame which is easy and quick.
